This is my preview of the wedding of Maria & David at Hardwick Hall near Sedgefield yesterday. The first wedding of the year for me was one that started with some rain and wind but which cleared to become beautiful sunshine (albeit still freezing!). Maria and David were joined by 40-50 guests for the ceremony and wedding reception at this ever popular wedding venue. Anyone who has been to Hardwick Hall will know there is a stunning view down on the lake and parkland overlooking the Temple of Minerva – a classically styled Victorian folly. The building has been expanded over the years and dates back to the 17th century originally – and before being a hotel was a maternity hospital. The setting is perfect for weddings and we were able to capture some beautiful images across the water and over the stone bridge next to the lake. The freezing weather meant that we spent only a brief time outside of course. After the ceremony and group shots there was the traditional wedding breakfast and speeches. This included a quiz organised by the best man which was a great way to recount some stories – regardless of whether they were true or not. A fantastic day which was clearly enjoyed by everyone attending who had travelled from near or far. Firstly, I would like to thank Maria and David for asking me to be their photographer for the day and to wish them good luck, health and happiness together as man and wife. Secondly, thanks also to the staff of Hardwick Hall and finally, to my assistant on the day, Kameron Spence, for his help with lighting and as a second shooter. I’m looking forwards to covering more wedding photography at Hardwick Hall this year – with the next one in April.
